porto de galinha


this is a card from the Porto de Galinha in Ipojuca, Pernambuco... It has been voted "Best Brazilian Beach" for the eighth time in a row by the readers of Voyage & Tourism Brazilian magazine...According to history the town was called Porto Rico, until 1850 it became a place where they landed and traded slaves to work the sugar cane plantations, since at that time and was the prohibition of the slave trade from Africa. To evade the control of the illegal transaction, slaves were transported together with Guinea fowl and password created by the dealers was not temporary porto galinha nova, hence the origin of current name.
